Why a Natural deodorant Can Reduce the Risk of Breast Cancer

Sweating is a good thing. It is essential. We control our body temperature through sweating. There are two types of sweat glands. The eccrine sweat glands are located all over your body and produce a lightweight, odourless sweat. The apocrine sweat glands are concentrated in the hair follicles of the following parts of your body: scalp, armpits, groin. These glands release a heavier, fat-laden sweat that carries a distinct odor. The smell, referred to as body odor, occurs when apocrine sweat breaks down and mixes with the bacteria on your skin. The bacteria break down protein into certain acids and that may smell unpleasant.

A bad sweat smell can be very intimidating. We want to smell nice, therefore, we use deodorants for our armpits to cover the smell and reduce sweating.

Did you know that a lot of conventional deodorants contain aluminium compounds? These aluminium compounds in antiperspirants temporarily block sweat glands to inhibit

This not only decreases the ability to control your temperature, but these aluminium compounds can also build up in breast tissue and produce some oestrogen-like effects. Over the years there were many indications that antiperspirants and breast cancer are linked.

Studies have claimed, women who regularly use deodorants containing aluminium salts could be at greater risk of developing breast cancer. Aluminium chloride has been found to trigger the development of tumors in breast cells in vitro (in a testube) as well as in experiments with mice.

But as of yet, the official stance of regulatory bodies and experts in the field of breast cancer is that there is no proof that aluminium chloride contributes to breast cancer in any way. Also, the areas of apocrine glands are very sensitive. The armpits are an especially crucial area for women, because they are so close to the breast.

A natural deodorant is a safer way to go. Unlike conventional antiperspirants, a natural deodorant like Natural Yogi´s, does not block your pores. The main compound is sodium bicarbonate, better known as bicarbonate of soda (for baking). Sodium bicarbonate combats the moist and absorbs the odour. It is very likely that sodium bicarbonate is antimicrobial. It is creating an environment that is not conducive to the odour-causing microbes that grow in perspiration.

However, it also changes the pH of the skin a little bit, and can lead to irritation of the skin if you have very sensitive skin. In that case, a low or non-bicarb deodorant would be a more ideal choice. It contains different types of starch that help with moist and Ricinus oil, and zinc oxide, which is also able to absorb odor molecules. Zinc is beneficial as it contains anti-bacterial properties.

The use of natural deodorant goes a little bit further:

Just think about that: What would you like to absorb into the body after a refreshing yoga class, or a run or hike – after we have just cleared the toxins and opened our beings?

A complete natural deodorant like Natural Yogi´s, created by Yoga Teacher Nadia, is an alternative when being concerned about what you are introducing at the sensitive, glandular area of the armpit. Besides the bicarbonate of soda, the natural deodorant contains other natural oils, essential oils and waxes with their very own benefits.

Altogether, it forms a frosty gel-like paste. You simply smear it with your finger under your armpit – and you are good to go for 24 hours or so. It works amazingly well, and the different fragrances cover the range from masculine to feminine, and sweet to spicy and tart. The little jars are stylish and convenient. Just pop one into your handbag or sports bag and have it on-hand wherever you go.

It’s a different approach to using deodorant but will soon feel natural and you won’t look back. I have made the change and I am so happy with my choice.
